Kalona, IA | NEIL Farmer you're right that the CIH design is now flawed in that the stagger is wrong. The older 800 and 900 planters had it right but when they went to the later 950 or 955 series they changed the leading edge of the openers on 1/2 of the units so as to prevent side drafting, oddly enough the engineers didn't redesign the length of the gauge wheel arms to match the openers, or actually change the stagger of the arm "pins" to match the stagger of the openers, thus 1/2 of the gauge wheels don't match the nice fit to the openers as the other half. It's also why the gauge wheel makes contact with the opener hub on 1 side at deeper planting depths.
Took me awhile to figure out what the deal was and a call to the CIH mechanic and him explaining what CIH did. Don't know if my explanation makes any sense but unfortunately I think a design change flaw has something to do with your problems. |
