I should have been more detailed response.

Good point Paul. I was going to edit my post and say my sensors were in relatively flat deep clay soil in a low snow melt years, but you beat me to it.

Based on what I've learned and what you pointed out and in higher snow melt or rain years on top of frost, I think some boils are probably from lateral moisture below the surface but on top of deep frost accumulating and then pushing up to surface (kind of an underground topography or water movement). Then when frost totally goes out, those boils will disappear because there is a top heavy water situation ability to completely drain out finally.
