Texas | I don’t know anyone caught with their pants down on feed. Locally our problem is water, getting to cows, and baby’s in this weather.
I jacked with the water at the coop for an hour after power came on today and was able to water cows.
We’re not setup for long cold snaps. Hardly anyone has sheds where you could put cows ready to calve. But I’m gonna have one next year.
My biggest problem is the dang diesel stuff won’t start. I treated all my fuel, but there’s too much bio fuel in it and nothing works. Even the guys that were running with the power service 911 only made it an extra day. Once it got below 20 I was dead in the water, even with a 3x rate or more of anti gel. I even put 1/2 gallon of gas in my old dodge and it will crank, but the fuel pressure light is on at idle. Hard to put out hay when the bale spike stuff or loader won’t run. We hauled some today with the wife’s Tahoe and a spear trailer. It wasn’t good.
Doesent help I was dang near putting in a full day to keep my house And water from freezing every day. Got a call this evening that water was running out the front door of grandmas rent house. Renter had left to stay with her parents since house was froze with no power. And she came home after hearing power was on and pipes had burst. I suspect that’s the case all over town.
