Subject: RE: How prepared.....

north west arkansas
We are right in the middle of calving season here and had just started a bunch of yearlings. Problem with calving is we normally have good weather so we calve multiple sets over several miles. If a person normally calved in weather like this we obviously would have them all together so easier to check. Needless to say we are burning thru a bunch of feed and bedding. This area just isn’t prepared for temps like this for any sustained time. Tons of homes have frozen pipes and not we are having rolling power outages to conserve power and then tonight gas company said to expect has to be cut off some. So far we have kept everything alive and well but we are working our tails into the ground doing it. We are spending 12-13 hrs a day feeding, bedding, chopping ice. Head home for a few hours then back out again for decent part of the night and then back out before daylight to start it all over. Had anywhere from 6-8” of snow and have an additional 3” when I just came in at 3.
