ecmn | Soil life is where your nitrogen is going to come from not from cover crops even a legume it is still soil life that gets that done. The cover crops are what is going to help you build that soil life and that's wildlife can eventually produce all the nitrogen phosphorus potassium calcium that you're ever going to need to grow a crop
I bet if more farmers thought about how many pounds of soil life will it take to produce the nitrogen phosphorus and potassium to grow this crop versus how much inputs do I have to buy to grow this crop their farm would be a whole lot better off.
All the mainstream Farmers that say they have always gotten a great response by adding this much fertilizer and blah blah blah what are you going to do now that it's $700 a ton? What are you going to do when it's heavily regulated to where from this calendar date to this calendar date you're not allowed to apply fertilizer? Based on your soil test you're not allowed to apply fertilizer on these fields? Based on your soil test and your location you are only allowed to apply 6/10 of a pound of nitrogen per bushel? | |
