This style of probe is tapered. There is a tapered drill bit and then the probe is a direct fit into the soil. Many others you drill a larger hole, set the probe, and then fill in the gap with a slurry of your soil. Direct fit is a more natural result. The probe is placed between two plants in the row.
I personally have run 2 probes in a field for several years to help validate my zone work. One in a best zone and one in a poor zone. That is alot of expense for a single field if you were going to do each field like cropmetrics is intended for irrigation scheduling. I think you could choose a single field and apply that general knowledge to several other fields in many cases. |
