WC Mn/Dakotas | You determine depth by watching the moisture sensors change day vs night. When you have a sensor every 4" it's very easy to determine where roots are. You also can determine how much of a rain actually infiltrates vs runs off/stays on the surface. How long soil is at or above saturated.
Other types of individual sensors or probes with less sensors that are spaced out further is much more difficult if not impossible to monitor exactly what's going on.
Actually tracking nitrogen is tougher. However I feel that if you soil sample at the probe prior to sidedress you can have a pretty good baseline and then follow the salinity data from the sensors fairly confidently. | |
