I would love to see some unbiased, true side-by-side studies done on the ROI of "precision" planter upgrades vs a basic planter. Not just the "X% better singularity or depth consistency" but actual yield increase. Seems like most studies point to effectiveness based on the assumption that perfectly spaced seed pays big dividends.
We have a guy a county over ran side by sides with a deere maxemerge 5 with regular pneumatic down force against his new deere exact emerge with hydraulic down force. They ran the exact emerge at 8mph and the maxemerge at 6 mph. They yielded the same. They farm a lot of acres so the extra speed they liked but when it came to yield it really didn’t matter. |
