Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80 | What are you working with?
If rolling HEL land and moderate CEC (16-25) and OM 2.5-5.0; using dry fertilizer, but can't strip till (= erosion); I'd like to know if placement of dry fertilizer 4"-6" deep , on-the-contour {probably Fall applied = deter erosion hopefully}, would be economically beneficial. (verses typical top dress, on No-till soils) Note: Fall placement where you worry more about "staying on the contour" than where the seed trench might be, next Spring = more time-consuming
Possible Fall-applied NH3 and dry fertilizer "injection", at same application, with minimal soil disturbance. (No-till farming practice, in this area)
I'm afraid a Spring-applied option, would be risky, if those 2.5" or greater, Spring rain events occurred. (= erosion, in old soybean stubble, running down old NH3 knife and/or planter seed trench) |
