Another cost will be the loss of markets. A good number of market owners will be unwilling or unable to comply. Those markets will close and the producer loses an opportunity. Then we have a Nielson with a market monopoly. I would think market competition should be at the forefront in our thinking. In the case of the market I work in, the sale starts at 12:00 noon. With 1500 feeders needing to be documented and tagged in a 3 to 4 hour time frame in 90 degree Missouri July weather, how does it happen? How many calves are going to overheat and die. That is a cost born by the producer thru LMA insurance which will increase.


Tagging has to be done before transporting the calves. The calves have to be tagged before ending up at the auction mart. There is readers mounted on gates and calves rfid tags are read as they pass by.
