There are several things to look for. If it's not a brand state look for glue marks on their backs. If they are buying small groups and singles there will be lots to see. Look at condition they should all have the same hide and hair condition. Look at mud on their feed they should all have have same type and similar amounts. Same ear tags, if no ear tags they shouldn't have any holes in their ears. The list goes on and on. Certain barns show different things. Its all there to see in the ring. I was always asked why I didn't go in the back and look at cattle before the sale? My answer they bring them right to me in the ring, why would I waste my time to go look at them in the hot dusty/ cold muddy pens?
