We bought our first Shelbourne header, (CX72),used from a local implement co. It was missing one end shield that the dealer agreed to order from the folks at Colby for direct shipping to my farm in North Dakota.. I have had Sheetmetal parts shipped to me before from other outfits, the other outfits applied the shipping label directly to the part and sent it to the trucking company. The usual result was that the only non scratched / dented area was what was under the shipping label. When the Shelbourne side shield arrived from Colby, it was in a custom shipping box made from 1/2 inch plywood assembled using drywall screws. The result was the Sheetmetal part arrived in perfect condition with no scratched paint or dented metal. I will always remember the extra care they took to protect that part.

I'm not surprised Jon that they took the care to do that for you. They gave me their cell phone numbers to call with questions after hours, they loaded us after closing time, and they had every single thing I needed in stock! Great place to deal with.

Another place where the SR crew from Colby went far above what I would expect. The header I bought came with new plastic teeth installed, but the installer managed to twist off a half dozen metric tooth mounting bolts I was not going to run it that way, so I drilled out the broken bolts. I needed to tap out the captive nuts to remove the last bits of the drilled out bolts. I was unsure of the exact bolt size and thread pitch, so I E mailed the question about the bolt size and thread pitch to the SR site. What I suspected they were, was wrong, I would have ruined those captive nuts had I used the tap I thought was right. They saw my mistake and E mailed the correct size. They worried that I might tap those holes wrong before checking E mail, so although I did not post my phone number, only my name and address, the Colby guys found my North Dakota phone number and called to warn me that I was about to use the wrong tap in those holes..

As to those metal stripper teeth being wrong for wheat. My CX header came with the teeth mounted cup down, while the recommendation was to install then cup up for wheat. That bothered me because while header hunting I looked at a header run in wheat with tooth cups installed up. The header had only a couple thousand acres of wheat, but the edges of the cupped teeth were worn razor sharp , the lip of the cup nearly worn off. The operators manual said install cup down for least aggressive threshing. Alternating rows mounted up and down for more aggressive threshing and all teeth mounted cup up for most aggressive threshing.
The teeth in my header were installed cup down, so I decided to at least try it to see if it would do a satisfactory job in our tough spring wheat. Remembering the rapid wear of the cup up teeth in the one header I looked at.
We found that cup down with the rotor near the upper stripper rotor rpm recommended for wheat did an excellent job in our tough spring wheat, also tooth wear was very minimal over the next few years.
