Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I was close. Some years ago I was at a "going away" party. It started to rain so we moved inside to the double garage. Several of us were sitting at a picnic table. This was the style made of bent pipe for the structure with 2" boards for the table and seats. A roaster for food was sitting on the table and plugged into an outlet. Lightning stroke somewhere and hit the guy on the opposite end of the table. I don't know if it came through the roaster/outlet or what the path was. The fellow across the table from the victim felt the jolt as he was sitting on the carriage bolts that held the seat on. I was on the other end and felt nothing.
The guy that got hit was dazed for a bit and they took him into the local hospital where he was examined and released. He has had lots of health issues now later in his life. The doctors can't seem to figure out what is wrong with him. He has lots of issues with muscles and nerves. He said he has brought up the possibility of the lightning strike but they don't seem to think this is related.
