Subject: RE: Nitrogen requirement for corn

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
I really don't have an answer. I guess I shot for around a pound per bushel. The last few years we have had good yields producing corn on less than .8 pounds of N. Don't know if it was shorted or not as they were record yields for us.
I do think most of the new corn hybrids have become more nitrogen efficient and produce more with nitrogen but it may be variety specific. There may be some that don't need as much N as other varieties.
