Subject: RE: brake controller install 01 Chevy Silverado

If it had a plug and play spot under the dash, I believe it indeed has the tow package.

There will be 3 wires getting hot when the brake pedal is applied and possibly when hitting the slide switch, if something is back feeding somewhere.

First check for a good ground, if the light on the controller isn't lit, there is no co continuity on the brake magnet circuit to ground.

Make sure the controller is getting power. Make sure the controller is grounded, make sure the controller gets a hot when the brake pedal is pressed.

Check the fuses like others said.

To tell which is which of the 3 wires, the left turn signal is also the left brake light wire. Same with the right. The magnet wire only has power when the controller is doing it's job, make sure the gain is all the way up, probably the right switch rotated forward.

To see if the controller is indeed connected to the rear of the truck, shut everything off. Test all wires with a test light, one may be hot. Ignore that one (don't touch it with the next step), and have a helper watch as you connect a ground wire to each of the wires that weren't hot, one at a time. When the controller lights green, that is the brake wire, then just check the magnet wire on the trailer is in the same position.
