Southern Pa. | I like electronic engines. To the OP, would you consider something back as far as the early to mid nineties if it was nice??
That would expand your choices of "true" pre emission engines. Anything after around '02 has emission equipment hanging on it. Just not as much as after '07.
5ek Cats, 6NZ Cats are good in stock form. Fuel mileage will be better with a good tune. MBN Cats aren't bad with a cam change and a good ECM tune. N14 Cummins, 12.7 Detroits are all good reliable engines.
I like the big blocks, and lean toward the older Cats because of their torque characteristics. But the Cats tend to use more fuel than the N14s and 12.7 Detroits.
