Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | First one was a 2009 Freightliner Cascadia. 800,000 miles. Detroit or DD15 engine. 13 speed.
Yesterday I picked up a 2005 Freightliner Columbia day cab with a Detroit 60 series 650,000 miles with a Generation 2 Autoshift. This won't be driven quite as much as the first truck but could probably still get 10,000 or more miles per year. Got the automatic so I can put more people in them. At least I hope that is the way it goes.
Both trucks are rated at around 500 hp. I was told that the higher horsepower doesn't necessarily mean lower fuel mileage. It can help because the engine doesn't pull as hard and fuel mileage drops when having to shift gears. I know with our first truck that even on hills we don't have to downshift very often. Yesterday we had the Cascadia on the road bob tailing to get a trailer and then pulling an empty grain trailer back. . Made 900 miles on 105 gallons of fuel. Just over 8.5 mpg.
