SW OH
I calve in late summer, early fall in the pasture. 15-25 cows on 15 acres. The pasture is out front and the driveway goes right through the middle. Someone sees the cows daily and when calving starts one of us goes out in the gator for a closer look.

The fence is good. Happy content cows stay in side a fence. There are 3 creeks crossing the pasture and I have only found 2 drowned in 20 years. Black headed vultures and coyotes are a much bigger problem.

I try to tag and castrate within 24 hours of birth. I can catch and tie the calf to the front of the gator by myself. After 24 hours maybe, maybe not. Sometimes with help I can catch them up to a few weeks. There's always at least one that is never caught until they come in the barn for the winter.
