Wherever they are is where they calve. Still rotate while calving, just slower and try not to move down the road. It can be done, just easier not to.
On tagging, if momma needs a matching tag to know her baby, I don't want her. Not hard to sort off drys at branding time, and know who is raising a dink by then also.
When I switched to green grass, I quit having sick calves, so no need in having a tag to know who has been treated.
Ditto to 2hcattle here. This year I am going to tag each calf at branding time in June. Sometimes we get summer pnuemonia so it's good to know which calf got darted. Last year we preconditioned the end of August an one group broke with pnuemonia about 10 days later. That was really aggravating. |
