I get relief from stress by doing something physically demanding, usually completely away from people.

Try to look at the positive side of these. Maybe it will help a little.
The car got fixed, so at least you didn't have to buy a new one, and didn't cause an accident.
The insurance got "fixed", and at least you didn't have a major property disaster requiring the insurance coverage during the screw-up.
If you paid by check, which I'm pretty sure you would have done, at least you can get bank records (yours and hopefully ex-wife's) and cancelled checks to prove you paid.

Still a boat load of crap to have to go through to get everything straightened out, especially when you tried to do it right, but do-able.

The definition of "STRESS" is:

The result of the confusion created
when the brain over rides
the body's basic desire
to choke the living (crap)
out of some (donkey) hole
that desperately needs it!

I think that definition fits your present feelings. It would mine.
