I could not disagree more. Ethanol has brought more young people back to the farm than any other factor in my lifetime. You have to be profitable to come home to farm.
Without crop insurance a beginning farmer would have a very hard time securing operating credit. Take the MFP payments out of a young guys cash flow this year and most would be further underwater. So, no, no, and no to your first questions.

Crop prices may fall temporarily, and inputs come down for a while but then economics would kick in and take over. SSDD.

And finally, believe me, it wouldn't take long for that 5000 acre guy to put in some cattle to feed that one disaster crop to, or store it for a big return later.
He would then decide to buy that Deere combine and farm 10,000 acres the next year. All at the expense of the young farmers.
