not sure what you mean by that. Just a guess as I do not know everyone's P&L but I would guess that those 80 year old guys you are referring to could outlast most of us. Not sure why you think there are to many farmers trying to take their slice of the pie as you say. Maybe there are to many farmers who do not have the financial stability to make it if margins continue to get tight but as I said it is likely not the guys in their 80s. During the last few years of his farming career my father would have been someone who others would consider a hobby farmer. People on some ag sites were/are critical of hobby farmers but why shouldn't my father have been a hobby farmer. He more than paid his dues and had to do things my generation would not dream of doing. He earned it. He also likely had some of the highest margins going. He was farming land that he purchased and paid for with paid for machinery. Pretty good gig if you ask me.
