I'm located in western ND.  We average 12" of rain and about 3"-4" rain equivalent melted snow, and much of that will run off if the frost goes deep early.  We installed our first tile in 2015 and it has done wonders on our wet seep areas.  We should have the last spots done in another three years.  I assume the OP farms in a dryer area like myself if he is wondering about the merits of pattern tiling.
