All of the tillage beans in this neighborhood that year were planted much more timely and yields on them were fine. There are soils and weather conditions where the penalties for not tilling can be severe.

Planting green.  And managing the cover so it isn't exclusively a grass that gets too rank and holds too much moisture when killed.
