By my math if renting ground and owning say 10-15% of what you farm. To run decent machinery, not new but not all 70-80s stuff either, say main tractor and planter less then 10 yrs old, you need 1000-1200 acres here on irrigated to make it work and my wife works in town.
But agree lots of variables can change. Livestock, yield for area, rent price, etc.
