Our insurance guy says to buy the insurance. Our insurance would pay for damage to car but not "not available for rental" coverage. Apparently rental company can charge the highest rental rate til car is available. Customer has no control of how long that will be.
Same with rental construction equipment. Buy whatever insurance owner wants.
This is correct. Your auto insurance will transfer to the rental car for comp/coll and liability coverage. What you don't get from your current auto insurance while in a rental vehicle is loss of use coverage, if you are the one that is at fault for damaging the rental vehicle. Let's say you run a stop sign, tbone another car, because accidents happen. Your insurance company will pay for the physical damage to the car, your liability will extend to the vehicle you hit, but what it won't pay for is that rental vehicles down time while it's repaired. So, let us assume that it takes 3 weeks for the vehicle to be repaired and back on the road. You are now on the hook for those 3 weeks of lost income for the rental company on that rental car. Gets spendy in a hurry. |
