FWIW, I am a big believer in battery cable replacement on these vintage, ESPECIALLY if the originals !
I also am big believer in separate grounds to the alternator, as well as good clean grounds from battery to frame, even MORE SO when still using the twin 6 volt batteries.

Yes, on all counts!

Anyone still running these tractors as 2x6 series for 12 volts should reconfigure to 2x12 parallel at the next battery failure. The batteries last longer, the total output amp capacity is greater, the engine cranks faster, and a battery failure isn't a stopping condition, as if you know what you're doing and how to identify which, you can disconnect the failing battery and get by on one until a convenient replacement opportunity presents (unless in dead of winter).

Converting at the next battery failure gets you new cables that you're probably due for anyway, a better electrical system, and 2 new batteries that were required regardless.
