Southern Indiana
Back in the day when kids knew how to work I'd bale and drop em on the ground. Dad or my wife would drive the tractor pulling 2 wagons at a time while 2 boys would throw up to 2 stacking. The barn crew (usually 3) would be back with empty wagons about the time they had them loaded. We'd have 2000 in the barn and be to the house by 8:30. Lot of times then they'd play basketball til they couldn't see the ball. Then we went to pulling wagons behind the baler. Then help kind of dried up all at once. We've had a Hoelsher accumulator for about 15 years which we still use. Probably only bale less than 5000 small squares this year. Since the horse industry has kind of collapsed, plus I've had a general bellyful of horse people, the strategy is to bale high moisture, wrap it, and let it walk itself onto a truck.
