Well that's debatable.

but most grass dairies shut down in the winter months I think.

Big strictly grass dairie here had a come to Jesus reckoning back in 2012. Guess what? It didn't rain. No rain No grass no winter feed. Cows would have got their heads chopped off but for the row crop guys selling them corn to make silage. They grow corn now too.

Lawn was dead here by beginning of July of 2012. We still raised over 200bu corn. We only had 1 rain that july.
