northeastern Ohio | Either a dead critter went in or you have a bad casing. The water may be going down beside the casing due to a lack of grout seal or the casing itself has rusted through and allowing ground water ( or septic leach) to enter the casing below the ground.
Your options:
Many well companies have a camera that they do a visual inspection of the well casing to look for a leak in the casing. Not sure if they can determine the seal status. You might be able to dig down 6 feet around the casing and fill with bentonite to reseal if you think surface water is entering the bore and following the casing down. Cost could be $100 to $5000 depending on what needs done.
UV light filter: These work great at killing bacteria. I bought one for our dairy water after our bacteria counts went high suddenly (later found the problem and re-sealed the casing with bentonite). Cost is $300-$600 plus a new bulb once a year for $60.
Reverse Osmosis: these will remove the bacteria. Under sink system will cost $300 to 500. Whole house is probably $1000+.
There is some bad information on the internet about both UV and RO. Here is what the CDC say about both: https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/drinking/home-water-treatment/house... | |
