Driftless SW Wisconsin

This group has been on winter rye also. The pics above are the first time I have advanced the lead wire in a regular (permanent) strip they started grazing on Saturday, 3 days ago.

I don't like tall, headed out grass for a couple reasons. First is that the grass is less leafy and less nutritious after it heads out. There is also a possibility of eye irritation.  Fortunately in a mixed sward like this there is a lot of other forage under the tall, mostly ryegrass seed heads.  There is a lot of red clover, some alfalfa and timothy under the headed out grasses.

There is a chance of rain predicted almost every day in the 10 day forecast. I do think this will make good baleage when I can finally bale and inline wrap it.
