The bit I read about the issue was that certain computer manufacturers were creating a "master" install disk using a system with an Intel cpu. Then, they were using that disk to load everything onto systems that happened to have AMD cpu's. Something MS did in SP3 became sensitive to that, but I don't know exactly what. Probably in something like power management.

So it really wasn't an MS issue (or AMD for that matter) directly as HP and others were cutting corners by using a master system that wasn't identical to the system they were building.

Since I don't currently have any AMD systems (I had one that I had upgraded to SP3 with no problems, but I've since upgraded the hardware to an Intel chip), I didn't bother checking into what the fix was.

Of course, there could be other issues than the one I read about.
