I have that lens on a 7D currently and had it on a t3i. For the cost it is the best bang for your buck. Then once you use a fixed aperture lens it isn't as fun but it takes about $3000 to replace it going that route. For outdoors especially the 18-270 Tamron is great and on a crop sensor you get a ton of reach out of it.
