A friend of mine and I both shoot with Canon 60D camera bodies. He liked my 75-300 lens so well he bought one too. One of his best quotes, "People love their Nikons, but they use their Canons!" Like ClaySEIa, you don't want to know what I've got invested in my hobby! I just bought an ultra wide lens that cost more the camera and lens kit did originally.

You can buy a good DSLR camera in your price range, but if you're going to get really serious about landscapes, etc. you'll need one of the larger frames, like the 60D.
