Excellent thread. I am in the same process as you. Looking to find a way to make a little extra money. I started with hogs when in High school. The bought my uncles and dads dairy. Milked for 20 years and retired from it in 2010. When my uncle retired I rented all of his land. Now with the price of grain looking to add a little extra to the bottom line. I have several poles sheds that we had used for hog and cattle.
I was looking at getting berkshires and farrow to finish with them and try the nice market. Wanting to stay small. Not looking to hit a home run just some singles and doubles.
I worked for a friend last winter when he had knee surgery and he has registered Angus cattle. I do not want any part of trying to raise a herd of them. Wow them moms are protective of their babies.
Good luck and have fun. I know I am going to .
