| I guess some of our problems have been agronomic or environmental. I guess the biggest issue with the bar is inconsistent berm from one row to the next. The rows that are running in a combine wheel track actually seem to work better than rows with no wheel traffic. Those rows are just too mellow to heave up a good strip. I think that is where a more agressive closing system like the Orthman, Remlinger, Progressive, Dawn, etal. would do a better job than the dull DMI blades we use. Getting the trash moved away from the berm and keeping it away is another problem we have had. In 2004 we had 80 acres where the old shucks drifted back over the planted row (couple days of 25-35 mph winds). Needless to say that corn did not "emerge" from the trash uniformly and it was down hill from there.
Do you find you need to treat with a fungicide in C/C strips? Any other management issues that you handle differently than "conventional" C/C?
Thanks for the info.
