Subject: RE: Why indeed?

Well, I remember the whole mid-1990s Freedom to Farm thing where the farm lobby went crying to Congress for a handout just as soon as the $5 corn euphoria from 1996 turned into $1.90 corn. It just goes back to the point of farmers bidding too much into land prices, and then saying "oh, woe is me" when grain prices or yields fall out of bed. As if that was a completely unforeseeable possibility. Or how about the moronic ads on the radio enticing people to run into the welfare office and sign their farm into the CRP program in the middle of the drought this summer? I'd really like to know if it was taxpayer dollars that paid to run them on WHO radio.
