Actually there are lots of people who run the 1850s/60s/90s at 7+ mph, and they perform quite well at those speeds if enough ballast and down-pressure are used.

I was at Edmonton AB at a meeting last fall where the canola freeze issue was debated and discussed. Producer experiences went both ways -- sometimes canola froze worse with disc openers, sometimes froze worse with shanks. I think it depends on weather conditions before and after the freeze, soil moisture, and perhaps some other agronomic factors such as plant health.
