I am by no means a Duramax expert (I run the 6.5L Pre-Max! :) ) but I can say with 95 percent certainty that the duramax does not have a lift pump, nor a high pressure oil pump.

so I will call bs on that replacement parts list. maybe he meant the high pressure fuel pump, the CP3?

I dont think your buddy should have gotten rid of his 7.3L. Other than its fuel system eventually needing gone through, I would keep a 7.3L till the wheels fell off before upgrading to any navistar motor after that. 1,000,000 miles is the target! :) shoot, I got 6.5Ls over a 1/4 million that havent stuffed a rod yet, so a 7.3L can surely do better than a 6.5L. (my username may be GM guy, but if it displaces 7.3 liters, runs on diesel, and is manually ZF shifted, it is a Ford I would own! :) )
