Subject: Selling a protective cow

Northern NE Panhandle
I was reading on Cattle Today because I was bored and someone said they are selling a cow with a week old calf because she's to protective. Then they wanted to know if they should throw this cow in the "cull" pen and the barn and sell the calf so no other hobby farmer would be saddled with this problem.

This pissed me off on a few levels.

1. When I have a calf I tag it and also give it a shot of 2cc of Alpha 7, I have been run over a few times but most of the time they are "bluffing".
2. If a cow runs over me i she is a good mother, out of at least 1000 calves i've tagged i'm bound to find a few who aren't bluffing.
3. Doing this everyday I like cows that "stay" right on me when I tag their calves. And having quite a few I think hobby farmers that think these are bad cows are **** for our industry. I think to many people look at cows as easy money and that's it.
4. To hobby Ranchers: A good cow is a cow that protects her calf, she doesn't give a damn about you or your kids.

IF you want cows get cows, if you want a family pet get a dog.
