Subject: Re: Angus Red vs Black

Western Iowa Manning
I prefer the Red Angus over the black. We breed and sell both black and red angus bred heifers and the reds always demand a premium and we have more and more interest in the red over the blacks every year. Something I've also noticed in our cow herd is that in the summer when the flies are really bad the black cows will have about 3x as many flies on them as the reds. Also the disposition is much better on our red cows. As far as breeders the last couple of years I've gone to the Iowa Beef Expo Red Angus sale and gotten good bulls there, plus they are halter broke and messed with so a lot tamer. I just got two from Nolin Red Angus from Monroe a few weeks ago. And last years two expo bulls came from Wright Farms at New London. Got a few bulls from Biebers in South Dakota years ago and really liked them also. The boys up there and out west are big on the Red Angus.
