I would second everything the others have said about the fertilizer, but also would suggest using a fungicide. Looks like you are in the eastern 1/3 of KS, and would think that the disease pressure would be fairly high in any given year.
One thing I heard was to not think of inputs as spending money, but protecting yield. Meaning, that if wheat has a potential of making 100 bu, protect whatever you can.
