Subject: Why fallow?

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums.
What is the reason for fallow? Is it a water issue? No one ever fallows around here. Yields keep going up. In vegetables we grow 2 intense crops per year and a wheat cover in off season to keep the sand from blowing. Everyone else grows corn/wheat/beans or corn/barley/beans, continuously. You don't see land laying out. I don't see how anything is getting "worn out" unless you don't put down soil ammendments as needed.
