Little River, TX | Doug,
I have not seen any low protein levels that I would attribute to low sulfur, BUT I believe I see a yield drag. The protein levels appear to be consistent with the stage of maturity.
It is my belief that I see better potassium levels in my alfalfa. Lower levels of alfalfa &/or bermudagrass potassium results in poor summer drought response which equals yield drag.
To improve my odds I include some K-Mag with my potash fertilizer.
My goal is to have my hay test mineral level show close to 2.50% K, for alfalfa that test 22% CP.
For a lack of better guidance, I have been looking for a 10/1 - 12/1 N/S ratio.
I assume that with maturity yield goes up and N% goes down.
From here it becomes complicated and fuzzy.
