Subject: Re: North Dakota - We got the corn

Boone Co. Iowa
Well, I'm a Iowa Farm Boy and I was really thinking that the Corn Belt has moved north and west. Because, it does seem like Iowa is acting more like Missouri the past few years (beans have done pretty good statistically, last 3-5 years). BUT, I've been looking into the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO). This could be a weather pattern that might be switching back. Which makes me think that we might have seen one end of the pendulum and are now swinging back the other direction.

I'm looking for weather that was more typical when I was growing up in late 70s and 80s in Iowa - fewer 4" rains, more 1.5-2" rains, and more 10 day stretches with no rain, and 1-2 of the "million dollar" rains that would save the crop in late June and July. That could bring corn yields back up in our area. I'm no weatherman but that is what I am looking for this growing year in our area.
