I started planting corn for grain in 1995 and beans in 1996.  The last year I had wheat was in 1997 and I haven't missed wheat one bit.  Neighbors laughed when I said I was done planting wheat.  Everyone said this isn't the corn belt and I'd soon change back. 

In our area, it's a combination of better genetics and a (permanent?) change in the weather pattern.    We get far more rain then did in the '70's and '80's.
