Red River Valley, MN | Used to be all small grain and soybean farm up here, started growing corn in mid 90's because even with cheap corn and an LDP it was still more profitable than wheat. On our farm for this upcoming year, if I figure wheat will yield 55 bu and corn will yield 145, corn is $187/ac more profitable than wheat. That isnt factoring in any protein (wheat) or test weight (corn) discounts, but I can tell you this...I have a lot better chance of producing 170bu corn than 70 bu wheat on our soils. The best thing we ever did was to sell the airseeder back in '08 and we havent missed wheat since. | |
