SE Nebraska | I would check all the fluids. Pull the radiator cap off while it is running and check for bubbles in the coolant this could be a sign of a head gasket leak. Check the oil and make sure it is not milky in appearance. Also smell the dipstick if it smells like burnt toast well then you can bet the motor isn't far from major repair work. Pull the dipstick out while the motor is running and check for excessive blow by. I would also suggest maybe looking at one with a detroit motor in it. The cat is snappier and a more popular motor but is less fuel efficient and more expensive to overhaul or even to get parts for. Everything else is pretty much just a crap shoot. We have 10 used petes and all have been in the shop for some repair at some time so just expect that you will have some breakdowns at some point. Good luck
