Near-north Ontario, French River
If you are looking at a Cat, check for oil leaks around the front and rear engine covers, they will be obvious. The leaks themselves are nothing overly serious unless you are the type that wants everything spotless. Fixing these leaks, which are common on Cats, can be very expensive as the tranny ill have to be dropped off the back, and more then likely the rad removed to get at things. Most guys around 'here' just live with the leaks and associated mess. Apart from that I dont think theres much you can visually see as far as things to 'look for". As others have stated , try to get the maintenence records, if you can get serial number off the engine Cat can verify any work thats been done assuming it was done by a Cat certified shop.
