East Central Ia
Don't forget about transmission and rear ends when looking at the paperwork. The truck i bought had about 100k miles on a complete engine overhaul but nothing done to the rear ends or tranny. I rebuilt the transmission and both rear ends in the last year. Not as much money in those as you can get in the motor but it can still cost money. Lots of that stuff is hard to check as well. Just pay attention to the little details... noises, and vibrations when you test drive them.
Any way you slice it i think its kind of a crap shoot when buying anything used... trucks being more so then other things. But I think you will be very happy with the Cat motor in a 379.
